When we made the online booking we found ourselves in an unusual situation. We chose a room that we later found out was scheduled for some renovations and wasn’t going to be available for all three nights of our visit. So we opted to split our stay across two different rooms. Our first night was in one of the original cottages, the Garden Cottages and the final two nights was in the Farmhouse.
When we arrive we’re shown around the main areas of the property, we hand over our car keys and settle down for lunch at a small table in a romantic glass house - which, is a stunning feature of the Greenhouse restaurant.
And just like magic, once we finish eating, someone appears and ushers us to our cottage. But, we’re presented with an unexpected quandary. Turns out our original room was finished ahead of schedule so we’re offered the option to spend all three nights in the same room or continue to split our stay.
Oh dear! This is not good for me. I am dreadful at making decisions like these. And of course I was dying to see the Garden Cottage room, after all I was already completely in love with exterior. “Can we have look inside?” I ask. “Of course you can!” says Roscoe, our super friendly and down-to-earth host. So we have a look and I am immediately smitten. I knew I had to spend a night in this divine space.
The following morning we wake in our lovely cottage, Mr Fritz makes coffee and we zip up our bags which later, magically appear in our Farmhouse room. I’m extremely excited for many reasons this fine morning. I’d heard the breakfast spread was extremely delicious and I love exciting breakfast foods. We have the whole day to explore, taste wine, eat, eat some more, and finally settle into our new room that has some very special extra features. This cluster of rooms has its own plunge pool, spa and sauna. Bliss! There is also the Green Room. This is an incredibly inviting and tastefully decorated lounge room. It does have gorgeous green walls, ridiculously high ceilings, old wooden floors, beautiful rugs and modern chairs paired with a giant leather sofa. A roaring open fireplace and stacked book shelves add even more ambiance, and finally, there is a self-serve bar that also includes snacks, and a tea and coffee station. Our pre-dinner ritual of gin and sodas, nuts and biltong and staring into the fire was quickly established.
